Overall Rating: 4 out of 5 Pros and Cons, July 30, 2009 By largemouth8 from Russellville, AR Advantages: Ease of use, Long lasting, Quality, Value for money, Well made/Durable Disadvantages: Heavy/Bulky As far as the kayak goes: Pros- Tracks extremely well, very stable, plenty of storage, i was reluctant about the rod holders thinking they would get in the way of casting but they are designed great and do not have a problem, adjustable footpegs work great, the plastic seems very thick and strong to withstand lots of abuse (although i dont recommend), the crosslock system is a huge plus with convienence Cons-heavy at 60lbs plus tackle and gear, seat is hard on the butt after awhile, the rodpod is in the way of your legs, this is something i didnt realize till i paddled awhile but the pod is right underneath your thighs which is quite uncomfortable after awhile but you can throw your legs on the top or sides of the kayak for comfort, the rod pod is not as convienent as i was hoping, if you stick your rods in there then your gear in the front will be sitting on top of your rods, you have to use short rods because my 7ft spinning rig would not fit conviently in there. The carrying handles on the sides are not for carrying, they will break (as mine did before it ever even touched the water), the foot peg system seems cheap although i havent had a problem with it. With all that being said I will recommend this company. After my handle broke, i called johnson outdoors (which is the manufactuer) and they are sending me two new handles and rivets, no questions asked. I have did my homework on kayaks and was debating between this one, the malibu stealth 12, and the wilderness systems...after reviews, research and testing, i went with the ocean but that is for my personal liking. Im sure there is better kayaks but i dont think there is a better kayak for $799. I didnt rank it 5 stars cause i dont know what a 5 star kayak is like. added info, i recommend the carlisle magic plus paddle for $100 at BPS as well..you will need to buy four medium and two small scuppers they come in packs of two at BPS for $10 a package. I will also highly recommend a cart of somesort for transporting to the water, this is a bulky heavy kayak and with added gear and such, it is not convienent without one. I can stand up and fish out of it. I rigged it up with a 55lb thrust trolling motor and a optima battery and can troll all day top speed of 18 to 20 mph on my GPS. I fish big lakes like Wheeler, Pickwick, Guntersville. in it and go where I please. I go places a bass boat cant get. Haven't took it to the gulf yet but will this summer."
